What Can Communities Do To Support Local Business Development?. This Monday night, May 19th, at 7pm in the BookEnds Gallery. Stacy Mitchell will join us for a positive discussion of how communities all across the country are successfully rebuilding their local economies by adopting zoing, planning and land-use guidelines that support small-scale, local business development as well as challenge the assumption that is so often made, that all development necessarily benefits local economies. Mitchell is a senior researcher with the Institute for Local Self-Reliance. A regular speaker and advisor to communities on retail development and independent business, she is the author of "The Hometown Advantage: How to Defend Your Main Street and Why it Matters"...and her latest book "Big-Box Swindle: The True Cost of Mega-Retailers and the Fight for America's Independent Businesses. You are invited to watch a New England Tradition! On this Tuesday, 12 of the area's wool spinners will be setting up their Spinning Wheels in the Gallery. They will be spinning wool all day...and you are invited to watch and ask questions. It's quite a sight! The group meets at BookEnds on the last Tuesday of every month. Mark your calendars!

Fiona was awarded a Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grant through the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts in 2007. This Friday Night at 7pm in Warner Town Hall, Dr. Alvord will be honored in a ceremony sponsored by the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum. Dr. Alvord, the World's first Navajo Indian Surgeon, currently on staff at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH, will be presented the "American Indian Honor Award" by New Hampshire Governor John Lynch and First Lady Susan Lynch (who is also a Doctor). Dr. Alvord is the author of "The Scalpel & The Silver Bear", published by Random House. This is a free event, but due to limited seating, tickets are required.
