Pannell Award Nomination

Every year the Women’s National Book Association awards this most prestigious honor in children’s bookselling, recognizing a bookstore that enhances their communities by bringing exceptional creativity to foster a love of reading in their young patrons.
We are so honored to be one among 18 general bookstores across the country to be nominated this year.
We now must submit examples of our creativity, responsiveness to the community's needs, passion, and an understanding of books to the judges for an April decision.
If you would like to submit an opinion or anecdote to help us win this award, please send to info@mainstreetbookends.com before March 13, and we THANK YOU!

Because of Winn-Dixie,
Mercy Watson and The Tale of Despereaux

" A community is the mental and spiritual condition of knowing that the place is shared, and that the people who share the place define and limit the possibilities of each others' lives. It is the knowledge that people have of each other, their concern for each other, their trust in each other, the freedom with which they come and go among themselves."  Wendell Berry

Enter a wonderful world filled with real magic, mystery, and danger.
As if being small and having S. Horten as his name isn't bad enough, now 10-year-old Stuart is forced to move far away from all his friends. But on his very first day in his new home, Stuart's swept up in an extraordinary adventure: the quest to find his great-uncle Tony--a famous magician who literally disappeared off the face of the earth--and Tony's marvelous, long-lost workshop. Along the way, Stuart reluctantly accepts help from the annoying triplets next door… and encounters trouble from another magician who's also desperate to get hold of Tony's treasures.
A quirky, smart, charming page-turner, Horten's Miraculous Mechanisms will enchant young readers--as well as teachers, librarians, and parents.  Long-listed for the Carnegie Medal (2012) and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize (2011)
