But I Already Said Goodbye
by Wendy Thacher Jensen
Wendy Jensen grew up in three different countries, landing finally in New Hampshire to practice homeopathic veterinary medicine, play violin, and raise her children. She received her veterinary degree from Cornell in 1987. She co-authored the New World Veterinary Repertory and authored The Practical Handbook of Veterinary Homeopathy: Healing Our Companion Animals from the Inside Out as well as the study guide Organon Reflections, which will be published this year. Her experiences as a veterinarian, an advocate at her local crisis center, and her work in an animal rights organization all come together to inform her writing.
This novel explores the intersection between domestic violence and non-human animal abuse. This is Amber’s story, a 19 year-old animal welfare activist, whose work is difficult but rewarding. While learning to speak up for mistreated, neglected, and forgotten animals, she gains the courage to face her own dark secret.
Amber’s struggle to free herself from an abusive relationship, with the help of her animal activist colleagues and her one-eyed feline companion, immerses the reader in parallel worlds of animal abuse and domestic violence, and leaves us cheering her on.
“A story that actually has the power to change the consciousness of others, told with integrity, and expressing hard won insights and wisdom.”
James LaVeck, filmmaker, founder of Tribe of Heart
